Moving and handling in adult care
When providing support to vulnerable adults and those with mobility issues, you will need to be able to move and position them safely. This course explains how to keep everyone safe whilst moving and handling individuals and equipment. Legislation and best practice will be covered, as well as NHS advice for minimising back pain at work. Moving and handling for personal care needs and advice on falls in older people will also be discussed.
Learning outcomes
- You will know and understand health and safety legislation and guidance on manual handling and how the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations apply to health and social care
- You will be able to use the correct lifting techniques and how to minimise the risks of injury at work
- You will consider whether lifting is always the recommended course of action in a care setting, and how to react to falls

- The level of assistance individuals need in moving and achieving the correct position can vary. Health and safety in the workplace
This short course looks at the importance of health and safety. It explains the responsibilities of both employer and employee and offers an explanation of the roles of risk assessments, first aid at work, harmful substances, and fire safety in keeping a workplace healthy and safe. You will also be introduced to the legislation for health and safety and the work of the Health and Safety Executive.

This short course looks at health and safety from the viewpoint of a manager or employer. Ultimately, it is the employer who has responsibility for the health and safety of their workforce, any visitors to the premises, and themselves. This is a big responsibility so make sure you know and understand relevant legislation and how to manage health and safety effectively in a workplace.
